About Dr. Camp of the Orthotic Shop of San Francisco
Dr. Camp a San Francisco Native moved to Colorado in 1979 to complete his undergraduate work at the University of Northern Colorado. He remained there for an additional three years after college managing a restaurant in Snowmass Village. He returned to California in 1985 to be closer to his family and has been here ever since.
Dr. Camp attended Life Chiropractic College West and attained his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree in 1993. He opened his first practice (Union Street Chiropractic) in 1994 and has been practicing in San Francisco the entirety of his career.
He has attained the post graduate designates of Chiropractic Certified Sports Physician, Chiropractic Certified Extremity Practitioner, he is a member in good standing in the Council on Extremity Adjusting, and often assists its founder Keven Hearon in teaching seminars on foot and gait mechanics and how to appropriately prescribe foot orthotics.
How Dr. Camp became interested in orthotics has its basis in a personal odyssey. In 1997 Dr. Camp suffered a severe back injury that was deemed a surgical emergency by two neurosurgeons. A third more conservative neurosurgeon stated "While I can see why the other Doctors want to do surgery, this won't be your last surgery, but the first in a series, I'd go do what you do to others and see how long you cam make it before you have to go under the knife." This injury occurred in 1997, and to date no surgery needed.
There was a three year period while Dr. Camp had unremitting mild to moderate pain which seemed like it would never end. This became constant mild pain towards the end of the third year. By chance while working with Dr. Kevin Hearon of the Council on Extremity Adjusting Dr. Hearon needed a set of stunt feet for a demonstration in how to make orthotics. Purely by chance, Dr. Camp was drafted to be that set of feet and hence had orthotics made for himself, by one of the masters of orthotics in the country who happened to be one of his close mentors.
Within a couple months of wearing his new orthotics, the constant low level pain was gone. This really brought home Kevin's statement that "Many of your patient desperately need Orthotics, the rest will merely benefit tremendously from having them."
Since 1997, Dr. Camp has been providing custom Orthotics to professional athletes, weekend warriors, and regular people as well with varying foot or gait issues, in other words..... people just like you.
